Where am I?

You have arrived at the the Rocky View Schools Community Wiki. This wiki is a dynamic, live space in which community members create knowledge. You are welcome to browse, edit or even create your own pages. .

How to get started:

You may browse the entire wiki without logging into the wiki. A good start to browse is to look at all the pages and categories by clicking the links above.

Account Creation

To edit a page or to create a page, you need an account. During Professional Development days, self registration is in effect. Please create your account by clicking [here].

Important concepts:

A wiki is an open, community managed space in which knowledge is created, improved and managed. Although it is possible to have a private space, a wiki page (or sometimes called 'article') is a public space that any community member can view. In our wiki, any community member with an account can add new pages and edit existing pages. The entire revision history of a page is visible to all community members.

Some Dos

  • Do fix typing and grammatical errors on existing pages.
  • Do contribute new content to existing pages.
  • Do create new pages by searching for it first. You may find existing pages that you may want to look at first.

If the page you are looking for is not there, simply create it.

Some Don'ts

  • Do not discuss page content in the page itself. Discussion should take place on the 'Discussion' page located on the top of the page.
  • Do not include personal opinion in the page. The discussion page can be used for that.

Wiki Organization

Pages are also called 'Article'. They are the same. A page contains content that others can read and edit.

A wiki is very unlinear while allowing for multiple methods of organizing content. The power of the wiki comes when pages are linked into other pages via multiply entry points. There are also 'Categories' allowing for the sorting of pages. When a wiki uses advanced tools for organization and searching content, we call it a 'Semantic Wiki' [1].

Some Dos

  • Add links to and from other pages
  • Add the page into one or more categories
  • Create original content

Some Don'ts

  • Overfilling pages takes away its effectiveness
  • Avoid clutter
  • Copy-paste from other sites

Wiki Categories

As the wiki grows, so does the need to use Special:Categories.
